Come Holy Ghost, Enlighten My Mind {Printable}

I have the privilege of teaching CCD to a group of ALL boys this year.  As we get closer to First Penance, Father wanted me to teach them this special prayer he loves.  It is a prayer to help them as they examine their conscience and it goes like this:
“Come Holy Ghost , enlighten my mind, strengthen my will, that I may know my sins, be truly sorry for them, and humbly confess them.”
Isn’t it just beautiful? So the printable I created has five pages, here are the instructions for all five of them {though they are pretty obvious}.  What I did was print the first page as a cover page and the additional four front and back to save on paper, then I stapled them on the left hand side like a little book:
1. Cover Page, to color.
2. Page 1, to trace the prayer and color.
3. Page 2, to color and practice the prayer.
4. Page 3, to color in the picture and also the bubble letters.
5. Page 4, to practice the prayer and also copy it on the lines.

Homeschool Conference Survival Kit {Printables}

Are you going to a homeschool conference?  I FINALLY am going to the National Catholic Conference in Virginia and I’m so excited!

So I organized my conference weekend and created this little survival kit for myself and, of course, I’m sharing it with my friends.  I created three important pages:

1.  Conference Survival Checklist

ITEMS NEEDED:

  • notebook—to take notes or jot things down, one with pockets or staple your print outs within the notebook
  • Pens/pencils
  • Highlighters
  • Print out of Conference schedule
  • Print outs of this kit especially the Curriculum Research & Notes
  • A bag to carry items.
  • Rolling tote in case you plan on buying books
  • Clothing– dress nice but comfy (especially shoes), don’t forget a sweater just in case the conference rooms are cold
  • Mommy First Aide Kit: band aides, chap stick, lotion, hand sanitizer, eye-drops, pain reliever & mints. Also a bottle of water, dried fruits/nuts, and a protein bar (most placed don’t allow outside food)
  • Budget: if you plan on buying, have a budget in mind to avoid overspending. (Use the Curriculum Research sheet).

    2. Curriculum Research Sheet (so you can check if the vendors have good deals)
    3.  Speaker Notes Sheet (with space for questions, Bible passages, and Encyclicals/Catechism references)

    Suggestions:
    1. Print and preview talks so that you can circle or highlight those that you would love to attend ahead of time.  If you are going with friends, share each other’s lists so you can either go together or separate and then share notes.  If there is a *special* speaker at the Conference, find him/her first and work around that time.

    2. Look at the list of vendors (these are usually mailed to you if you’ve signed up ahead of time or available on Conference’s website.  Circle (if you have a map) booth locations to make sure you don’t miss those.
    3. Print the schedule so you know what to expect.
    4. Print Curriculum Research sheets and write out all books ahead of time.  Take sometime to look up online how much the retail price of the book is.  This way you know when you spot a good deal or not.  (one per child or as needed).
    5. Print the Speaker Notes sheet (one per talk).

    Enjoy!

    Organized Mom = Happy Home {Daily Organizer Free Printable}

    WARNING:  I am not an organized person, never was as a child, nor a young adult, and now as an adult it has been one of my constant struggles.  When I first read books like A Mother’s Rule of Life by Holly Pierlot, I thought, “there is no way I can micro-manage my life like that – NEVER happening, nope…I will be miserable!”  Honestly, I believed that becoming a micro-manager in my home, homeschool, and daily life would equal a tormented mommy and wife.  I mean if every aspect of my life was organized and timed and schedule, when would I find the time to “play”, “relax” and really “enjoy life”.  So I went with the flow like I always did, organized my homeschool, some, the house, some, my prayer life, some.  But my so-called “freedom mentality” was just the opposite!  Yeah, I admit it, I was dead wrong!
    With the move to the new house and adding 400+ square feet more to clean and keep organized PLUS depleting the house of clutter by selling or giving away TONS of things before the move, this was my opportunity to give this micro-management a try.  I went kicking and screaming, I confess (to you and my spiritual director).  So I started searching for a method, a practice, what would work for me but also get me to be super organized.  I bought a new book written by fellow Catholic homeschooler (and blogger) Laura Dominick entitled, A Plan for Joy in the Home (highly recommend it!), re-read the old ones (actually, I skimmed), and searched the internet for an answer, Holly at The Three Sided Wheel has other great printables and has been a great inspiration to me.  After seeing many examples of great domesticity and ideas, I came up with a game plan to implement at home.  {Pray for me, this hasn’t been easy but it is so necessary.}
    It’s amazing how getting everything written down on paper helps to get your life in order.
    I will be posting in parts, the way I set up a cleaning schedule, a chore schedule (which we are still working on), a school schedule and daily micro-management of my home.  Maybe, my struggles will be an inspiration to another mama like me, who struggles in this department?  So here I will chronicle my journey to becoming an Organized Mama and in turn creating a Happy, Healthy and Holy Home (Domestic Church anyone?).  I, of course, will also be sharing all the goodies I’ve spent time working on.  They are, obviously, going to be super “cuttie-patooty”, because I’m a visual learner and like “pretty”.  So today I’d like to share my Daily Organizer.  I know it won’t be a practical sheet for EVERYONE and yes it is in color but I do print front and back (to save trees) and also on draft mode (to save on ink).
    Daily Organizer
    Also, if you don’t want to have to print this all the time, go ahead and print in regular mode (for bright colors), slip this into a heavy-duty sheet protector and use a dry erase marker.  But if you are like me, I love saving the sheets to look back on things.  Another idea is to print a week’s worth and then sheet protect them so that you have the whole week to look at but other clean sheets available to use.  Enjoy!

    UPDATE:  After printing on draft mode and keeping the sheets I realized that there was no need as I have my monthly planner that stores it all.  SO, I printed regular mode and slipped them into sheet protectors.  I love the bright colors.  I also made a second sheet that doesn’t contain the flower back ground for all the even pages (it is page two on the PDF above).  I printed 14 so I have two weeks available to write on to plan ahead.  Here’s what the second sheet looks like:

    St. Andrews Christmas Novena (another free printable)

    I just love the St. Andrews Christmas Novena because of it’s simplicity!  My kids learn it super quick too and the non-readers pretend to read it.   This prayer is called a Novena but differs a little, it’s not for the usual nine (9) days, it commences on November 30th and ends on Christmas.  Here’s the page I made for them to use this year.  Enjoy!

    Celebrating the Liturgical Year with Children: Feast of Christ the King (FREEBIE)

    I’m so happy to announce my very first downloadable freebie on Raising {& Teaching} Little Saints. I’m working on various activities and themes. This is a test/sample of some of the things I will be posting in the near future.

    After doing my Morning prayers and reading, I got a little inspired…made some fun printables for my kids for today’s feast of Christ the King. Most are self explanatory but if you have any questions, please leave a comment here and I’ll get back with you ASAP. It’s more for smaller kids but I think you can adapt it to older ones. I’m having my 13 year old read the page for Teachers and use the vocabulary words in reading response journal (where he explains in his own words what he read).  Hope you enjoy them as much as we have!

    Holy Week: Our Journey {Free Printable}

    My beloved can tell you how much this has bugged me all Lent, it’s been keeping me awak actually, lol.  I’ve been stirring because I felt like my kids weren’t really ready for Holy Week and the Crucifixion and, of course, Easter!  Yes, we’ve been doing things all during Lent but I felt like now that they are almost 5 and 6, they needed something more.

    So I put this together (it took me some time to get it all together) for our classroom!  I am so proud of my kids because they were so into our lesson as we talked about the days of the week and our Holy Week Journey to Easter Sunday!  I really enjoyed making this and also loved its simplicity!

    Here are some pictures of what it looks like:

    The road has the days of the Holy Week on top, and the events at the bottom of the road…leading to the Resurrection.  At the bottom of this I moved our Stations of the Cross {I bought those here}

    I took this opportunity to review the days of the weeks with the kids:

    Here are two other looks from different angles:

    Then we used our little kids Let’s Climb Closer to Heaven {from our school room door} found at That Resource Site to walk the road through Holy Week (this was my six year old’s idea):
    Directions:
    1.  Print all of these out on card stock. {this will get you to the free link} If you don’t have cardstock, like me, then I would recommend that you laminate, I would recommend you do that so that you can save it to use in the future.
    2. Create a path, road, or something to that effect on a large paper to post in the room. Another option is to print these small and to make a file folder out of them and have each kid make their own to take home {more for CCD or school settings}
    3. Glue/tape the days of the week down first at the top of your path/road.
    4. As each day passes, read the Readings for that day and talk about these stories by using the events cards.
    5. I placed stations at the bottom. You can purchase these here: http://www.catholicartworks.com/
    6. The little kids walking the path are from http://www.thatresourcesite.com/

     Please only use these at home or with your religious ed. classes (or co-ops).  This cannot be sold.  If you want to share it with others on your own blog, please link up to me but don’t distribute it directly.  Thank you and I hope you can enjoy them as much as our family has!
    Blessings!

    The Nine Days BEFORE Christmas

    Today marks Nine Days BEFORE Christmas and this means it’s time to start our Christmas Novenas!

    A perfect way to continue to prepare for the Birth of our Savior! I found one on the lovely EWTN website that I wanted to share with our readers: Christmas Novena.

    To accompany this lovely Novena, on this gloomy and yucky icy day, we will be working on our kid friendly Nativity at our Domestic Church. I got it from the lovely Lacy over at Catholic Icing…I love it when she draws things and shares with us! So here is her DYI Printable Nativity….all you need is TP tubes, her print outs and the basics: glue sticks, scissors, and crayons…and voila! Okay kiddies waiting for me, gotta run!

    Here’s a peek as to what this lovely printable looks like:
